Be Prepared: Check Off Your Hurricane List

Hurricane List
In the event of a hurricane, there are two things you need to do. Prepare & Stay Safe.

Be prepared for the worse and hope for the best. Hurricanes change in the blink of an eye and can cause an array of destruction. Please use the Palm Beach County Hurricane Guide. It has useful and valuable information such as phone numbers, lists, and tips. 

What you should do before a storm?
  • Fill your car’s gas tank
  • Take out extra cash and store it in a safe place/ Waterproof container
  • Make copies of documents and secure them electronically via Dropbox, Neat, or Doxie. / Store in waterproof containers.
  • Purchase flashlights & batteries
  • Bring in anything that can be picked up by high winds. Example items include: bicycles, lawn furniture, & small plants
  • Turn the refrigerator and freezer to the coldest setting.
  • Purchase large amounts of water.
  • If you have a boat, secure it.
Hurricane Supply Kit:
  • Wind-up/ battery powered clock
  • Portable chargers for laptops/cellphones
  • Garbage bags and ties
  • Paper towels, Toilet paper, & Hand Wipes
  • Fuel (charcoal, lighter fluid, matches) or a full propane tank for the grill
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Manual can opener
  • Rain Gear  2 coolers
  • Plastic wrap or storage containers
  • Batteries
Food Supply:
  • Canned juices
  • Canned food (tuna, vegetables, and soups)
  • Preserved Meats
  • Peanut Butter & Crackers
  • Fruits/ Dried fruits
  • Powdered - Shelf Stable Milk
*Often Forgotten: Tableware -  Paper plates, napkins and paper or plastic cups; plastic forks, knives and spoons; a couple of serving spoons, forks and knives for food preparation and serving.

Medical Supply List:
  • Medic - Alert Tags
  • Insect Repellent Spray
  • Sunscreen
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • First Aid Kit
  • Over-the-counter medication
  •  Children's medicine
Prepare Your Pet:
  • Microchip with up-to-date contact info ( Make sure your contact info is up-to-date )
  • Updated shots and medical records
  • Calming Aids ( Get from your Vet )
  • Medications
  • Harness / Collar - Harness is more likely to not slip off of the animal. You can also use a glow stick and wrap around the pet to see.
  • Crate/carrier/tank
  • Favorite Toy
  • Puppy training pads/Litter
  • *Fun Tip - Buy glow-sticks, and use as a second collar this will allow you to seem them in the dark. Great way to entertain kids & not trip!
